Mr Muhammad Naseem (Joe) Asghar

My wife and I have now been Khandallah residents for some three years and have continued to be impressed at the the level of community support for activities surrounding the school. I currently have three children at Cashmere Avenue School with challenging Scottish names and an odd surname !

For the past 3 years I have served on the Board as a parent representative, and feel that in my own small way have contributed to the successes the school has had. My main activities have centred on curriculum, policy and performance. In addition, I have supported the principal in interviewing for staff.

Through these activities, I have gained useful insight into the New Zealand education system and hope that it will be of some benefit if I am able to continue as a Board member.

Originally trained as a pharmacist, I have in the past worked for the Department of Health in England. This provided me with an understanding of Government and its operation, and its parallels with education policy. Presently I am employed with the Foundation for research Science & Technology.

I feel I have a pragmatic approach to life, and a interest in being part of the local community. Since a school and its children are the heart of any community there is no better place to start. The parents we have met through school have been kind and generous without fault - even though I am originally from Scotland!

In my opinion, the best way to contribute to the education of the next generation is to be part of the learning process, understand the challenges in the system, the opportunities and the people who deliver the agenda. Hence my desire to be considered for re-election to the Board of Trustees.

Nicky Plummer

'I have two boys at Cashmere Avenue School. I have a background in journalism, communication and policy development. Before starting my family I worked as a journalist for a small community newspaper, in Parliament and as a consultant for a Public Relations business specialising in corporate communications and government lobbying.
I understand how government departments function, the process of policy development and the need for effective communication between parties.

I am in and out of school almost every day with my children providing me with the opportunity to be involved in school activities and to interact with other parents.

Cashmere Avenue is a great school and I firmly believe in the educational, social and cultural environment it provides.'
James Painter

I have lived in Khandallah, within earshot of Cashmere Avenue School, since 1994 and my two daughters both attend the school. As a parent of current students I value the special environment of the school together with its academic, sporting and cultural strengths. Our school board has parallels with a corporate in that it is the job of the chief executive (our Principal) to run, and be allowed to run the school at an operational level and it is the job of the board to help direct and plan at a strategic level.
I look forward to doing what I can to support our school staff and help plan for our school and its future.

In my working life I'm a financial adviser which involves providing advice specific to a given situation, set of objectives and resources and there are similarities with my role as a trustee, particularly in regard to longer term planning and funding. Part of my trustee responsibility will be as a member of board's finance sub-committee.
